Porch Comfort: A call to Worship

By Rev. Johnny Ray Simon

“O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:1

God’s gaze

A call to worship from the comfort of John’s porch.

I sit on our deck and commune with God under the canopy of Nature’s cathedral. I breathe in fresh air. I hear the symphony of the wildlife. I feel the cooling breeze of the wind whispering through the treetops.

Porch comfort in God’s presence is a call to worship. A call to the undivided attention to God, the Almighty and Ever-present God who is everything and everywhere. God desires our intentional gaze on His unwavering gaze. Like the psalmist writes in Psalm 139, God’s gaze is omnipresent. We cannot flee from God’s presence, not to the heavens, or on a “bed in Sheol,” not at the “farthest limits of the sea” or the darkest corner of our soul. God’s gaze is unwavering, resolute, steadfast, never-failing, solid, set in stone, unbending, unflinching.

God’s gaze is a call to worship from the comfort of my porch. Listening beneath the noise, resting in strength under the shelter of Heaven’s wings as I sit on my porch soaking up the Holy Spirit’s presence.

Sit and worship God’s gaze from the comfort of your porch.
